The film features the Barking Owls studied by Dr Natasha Schedvin while conducting research in the Wooragee area for her PhD. Betty Barker is one of a pair of owls living in the ever changing forest world in Mt Pilot Park.
Betty recounts courtship by Todd and reflects in a chatty manner on domestic matters including all about nesting, chicks, hunting, threats, home territory and troublesome neighbours! They don’t realise how small their world is and how vulnerable they are until a catastrophic wildfire sweeps through the area in 2003.
They survive the main onslaught and, despite severe disorientation and trauma, Betty and her mate gallantly attempt to adjust and resume ‘life as usual’. Although the constraints of their changed world take a heavy toll, out of the adversity new hope and opportunity beckon for Betty.
Beautiful shots of other local flora and fauna make this DVD a wonderful showcase for the natural beauty of our area. Local children and landholders also feature in the docu-drama.
